Hi Folks,

I am a specialist with the Google AdWords Team and have been working on landing page policy related violations since the last two years. Of late, I have been noticing an increase in the number of questions around this topic and therefore decided to utilise this platform to demystify Landing Page and Site policies. The topic for this week is “Site not working”.

Disabled “Site not working” is a very common issue that our users experience on a daily basis. This happens when a user clicks on your ad and the site leads users to an error page. AdWords policy doesn’t allow this and we’d like you to read more here.

A useful way to identify those errors on your website are through HTTP header tools. Below are links to browser specific tools:

Internet Explorer
(All versions)

Firefox (All versions)

Google Chrome (All versions)

We want your ads running and we are here to help. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to make sure that your landing page URL is working fine without returning any errors. After all, we do not want to make you pay for clicks to a site which is not functional, right?

To get your ads approved and your site enabled, make sure that you review our guidelines first. Once you are sure, your site is good to go, you can resubmit it site for review by filling up the ‘Contact Us’ form in the AdWords Help Center.

I’m happy to answer any questions that will help you to understand this topic better and therefore please feel free to sign up and post any questions which you might have about this policy.

However, do remember folks that this is an open forum and therefore I wouldn’t be able to answer any account specific questions, as I don’t have an access to your account. You are always free to ‘Contact Us’ through our various support channels which you can find here

Regards,

Subharaj

Hi Subharaj,

Thanks for posting this valuable thread. It gives a clear understanding of how the account might got suspended due to site not working as you explained. I agree that these days lot of advertisers have been complaining regarding this on Adwords Community here and it's really good to see that one of the Google Employee came in front to address this.

I am sure many advertisers will get the understanding on this and will assist them to take immediate actions and then apply for site review to get their account going.

Thanks!

Pankaj

Hi all,

Thanks again for your comments. Please do keep them coming as this will provide me and my other team members with a better idea of how well we can help you out with different AdWords topics. To answer most of your questions, while I would be covering landing page and site policies over the next few weeks, we may also have specialists on other topics come and talk about various other aspects of AdWords as well. Just keep checking the forum regularly :smileyhappy:

Hi Subharaj,

OK - here's a question on this topic.  Let's say a site is down for a long time (whether for maintenance, a bug, dns problem, whatever).  If the advertiser pauses their campaign(s), why do they still receive ad disapproval notifications?  Is there some additional action they need to take during the time the site is down?

Thanks.
