Hi everyone,

Advertising on the Google Display Network can be daunting if you don’t know how to effectively reach your target audience. Luckily, the Google Display Network offers various targeting methods including the use of managed placements. Managed placements allow you to specifically choose places where you’d like to show your ads.

If you owned let’s say a hair salon, you’d want to show on pages related to the chicest haircuts for 2013 like online style magazines or blogs. Most of us will probably only know a handful of sites on the Display Network related to this content, and choosing relevant placements is key to a successful display campaign.

Luckily the Google Display Network Ad Planner can help you identify these placements. With Ad Planner, you can narrow placements by selecting Audience, Content, and Placement filters. To get started with Ad Planner, you can visit Google.com/AdPlanner. Once you're in the account, to search for placements, you’ll want to complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Search for Placement tab.
  2. Under What are you looking for?, check the boxes that apply.
  3. Under How should your results be ranked?, choose the ranking that's most useful to you.
  4. Click Start Search.

You’ll see related placements listed along with key metrics and information such as site category and impression estimates. Another way to find placements on Ad Planner is by searching for pages containing specific keywords or similar to a certain site you select; you can access this function by selecting Site Content from within the Search for Placement tab.

How you have used Ad Planner to refine your online advertising? We’d love to hear!
